Updates

Updates to ongoing issues will appear here.

  • BT Cable: Open Reach have confirmed they have no planned proposals to replace their existing apparatus at this time.

  • Dornie Bridge Lights

  • Latest: 22/05/09 Options for upgrade received from Transport Scotland.  Report will be discussed at CC meeting on Monday.  All welcome as usual.  Read the Report.

16/1/09 Phase 1 completed.   Old lights removed and lighting at junction and bus stop re-instated.  The next stage is to consider proposals for replacement.

The CC is hopeful that the long running saga of the bridge lights may be about to make some progress. Your secretary has spoken to Transport Scotland, the government agency responsible, and has been assured that both the agency and Transerv are committed to finding a resolution to the problem.

In the first instance it is proposed to remove the lights, which are damaged and create a traffic hazard for both vehicles and pedestrians. At present most of the lights are out, but Transerv are attempting to get the column lights at the junction lit.

Also, Transerv are currently looking at preliminary options for a replacement system and once these have been discussed internally, they will arrange to bring them to the CC for further discussion with the community as a whole. A representative of Transport Scotland will also attend.

Any solution will have to take account of various factors, including:

    • The bridge structure
    • Road safety
    • Appearance
    • Light pollution affecting neighbouring properties
    • The needs and views of the community
Historic Scotland will also need to be consulted because of the proximity of the Castle.

We are hopeful that options will be presented at our meeting in March 2009.

In the meantime, if anyone has views on this please email me a brief preliminary statement. As soon as I have further details of what is proposed I will post them here.
  • Roads: Now completed.  HC will install verge markers at the entrance to Dornie at the corner before the shop to prevent inappropriate parking on the grass.
    • HC will survey the road to Conchra Salt Depot with a view to improvement.
  • Payphones:  Highland Council have objected to the removal of the payphones in Ardelve and Killilan.
  • Water Main: "The ageing water mains will be replaced by new plastic water mains and will provide better quality water and reduce the number of bursts.  We intend to use techniques which will result in minimum disruption." Scottish Water Statement.
  • Licensing: the CC will receive details of all licensing applications for comment.
